It was in May 1985 that the DELF, Diplôme d’études en langue française, and the DALF, Diplôme approfondi de langue française were created by the French Ministry of National Education. The design of the tests is carried out by the public operator, France Éducation international.
How are the DELF and DALF exams are organized?
There are 6 diplomas corresponding to the 6 levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: DELF A1, DELF A2, DELF B1, DELF B2, DALF C1 and DALF C2.
DELF A1 and A2: elementary levels
DELF B1 and B2: independent levels
DALF C1 and C2: experienced levels
For each level, four skills are assessed: oral comprehension, written comprehension, oral production and written production.
Is it necessary to pass each level?
Each DELF and DALF level is independent, and it is not necessary to pass all the levels. The choice of level will be made in consultation with the teacher and will depend on the learner’s objective.
Why take the DELF / DALF?
One of the objectives may be to formalize your level of French for professional reasons. Another reason is to obtain the B2 level to integrate a grande école or a French university.
At Etoile Institut de Langue it is possible to prepare for the DELF and DALF by enrolling in the Le Diplômant program.
